Authors wishing to submit articles for publication should do so through the journal’s online submission system after having read the instructions on the 'Preparing your materials' page. Submission of a paper will be taken to imply that it is unpublished and is not being considered for publication elsewhere.
Authors of accepted papers should send a final version via email. Please use Word for all submissions or contact the managing editor if this is not a possibility. The publisher reserves the right to typeset material by conventional means. When submitting your final article via the online submission system, please include the following supplementary information:
- An abstract of the article of no more than 250 words.
- A 150-word author biography to be used for our notes on contributors’ section to be uploaded separate to the text as ‘supplementary material’.
- Any graphs, tables or figures to be uploaded separate to the text as ’supplementary material’
- A statement of the article’s length in number of words
- An image and 2-sentence summary which we can be used to promote your article on social media to a wide, non-specialist audience.
The answers to any queries sent to a contributor by an editor should ideally be returned within one week of receipt.
Note: If submitting a paper for either the CEH annual prize or as part of a Special Issue, contributors must ensure that they tick the relevant box upon submission.
Licence to publish
Before Cambridge can publish your manuscript, we need a signed licence to publish agreement. Under the agreement, certain rights are granted to the journal owner which allow publication of the article. The original ownership of the copyright in the article remains unchanged. For full details see the publishing agreement page.
