The State of Corporate Climate Governance Around the World

Cambridge Forum on Corporate Climate Governance explores how corporate actions to address climate change can contribute to a sustainable future. It examines the governance and decision-making processes, as well as the legal, regulatory, and financial frameworks needed to support these efforts.

The journal supports the growth of academic and practitioner research in this area and aims to push forward the global corporate climate agenda by using peer-reviewed research to better inform, engage and influence individuals working in or advising publicly listed companies, private enterprises, family-owned businesses, state-owned enterprises and other corporate entities. It seeks to publish applied academic articles alongside contributions from non-academic experts, practitioners and policymakers as well as contributions jointly authored by academics and their counterparts in business, finance and the legal and accounting professions.

A themed issue format will be used to bring together research from the many disciplines that are fundamental to understanding corporations and corporate governance, including business, law, finance and more. This is a journal for academics, legal and financial advisers, corporate executives, board members, shareholders, regulators, investors, policymakers and all individuals critical to supporting and scaling climate action within businesses and across key industry sectors and value chains. To foster meaningful dialogue between academic and non-academic experts, the journal prioritises clear, accessible language in all its published contributions.

Cambridge Forum on Corporate Climate Governance is part of the Cambridge Forum journal series, which progresses cross-disciplinary conversations on issues of global importance.

The journal invites submissions for the inaugural issues on the thematic area: The State of Corporate Climate Governance Around the World, guest edited by Lisa M. Fairfax, Eldrid Herrington, Sherwat Elwan Ibrahim, Jane Nelson, Dan W. Puchniak. 

In the first instance, please submit an extended abstract of 1,000 words (excluding references) to the journal at cfg@cambridge-org.demo.remotlog.com, copying the editors at fairfaxl@law.upenn.edu, erh22@hughes.cam.ac.uk, sherwat@aucegypt.edu, jane_nelson@hks.harvard.edu, danwpuchniak@smu.edu.sg, and spcn2@hughes.cam.ac.uk. 

The deadline for submissions of abstracts is 30 April 2025.

 

Following the submission of abstracts, authors will receive responses by the end of May 2025. Selected authors will be invited to submit full articles of 5,000 to 10,000 words, with a view of having accepted and peer-reviewed articles published by the end of the year.

Submission Guidelines

Cambridge Forum on Corporate Climate Governance seeks to engage multiple subject disciplines and promote dialogue between policymakers and practitioners as well as academics. The journal therefore encourages authors to use an accessible writing style.

The launch issues will examine core questions on the complexities and evolving best practices of advancing effective climate governance around the world and the risks and opportunities for businesses and institutions navigating this rapidly shifting landscape. We welcome contributions addressing, but not limited to:

• Legal, finance, business, political, and cultural frameworks shaping different approaches to corporate climate governance around the world
• Drivers, barriers, enablers, case studies of best practices and promising opportunities for the corporate sector
• Best practices for board oversight, accountability, disclosure standards, and stakeholder engagement in corporate climate governance
• Aligning corporate climate strategies with regulatory and financial frameworks and examining how businesses can effectively integrate evolving climate policies into corporate governance and decision-making
• How corporate boards can adopt innovative strategies for governance practices, risk management and sustainability frameworks
• New strategic frameworks for empowering corporate boards in harnessing innovation and technology
• Broader international and regional climate frameworks and their influence on domestic best practices in corporate climate governance, such as comparative analyses across jurisdictions and sectors
• Public-private partnerships in cross-sectoral collaborations to advance or enhance climate governance
• Most pressing gaps in knowledge and networks that are critical to drive climate actions by businesses and emerging models of corporate climate governance

Full Article Submission Process

Submissions of full articles should be made through the journal's online peer review system. Authors have the option to submit a range of article types to the journal. Please see the journal’s author instructions for more information.

All submitted articles will undergo a double-anonymous peer-review, in line with the journal’s review process, for both content and style. Accepted articles will appear digitally and open access in the journal. Acceptance of an abstract does not guarantee acceptance of the full article.

References for all submissions should consistently follow Chicago style and be complete.
