Les Annales. Histoire, Sciences Sociales, une référence internationale depuis 1929

Founded in 1929 by Marc Bloch and Lucien Febvre, the Annales have always sought to move beyond their prestigious heritage by presenting the most innovative research in the field of history. The journal provides a unique platform for dialogue between history and the various social sciences, defined by its integration of new fields of research and comparative history, its openness to global history and epistemological reflection, and its encouragement of both close source analysis and historiographical reflexivity. It also accords a significant place to the examination of recent developments in research via book reviews, review articles on specific currents of scholarship, and forums centered on important recent publications.

As a peer-reviewed journal, the Annales draws on the evaluations and expertise of specialists to select the best articles and to develop them with their authors. It publishes thematic dossiers and special issues devoted to particular fields of history, while its program of translation and bilingual editorial work encourages the diffusion of scholarship in both French and English. A network of international correspondents works to ensure that the journal publishes research from across the globe and attracts readers on all continents. The Annales are also interested in new formats for the diffusion of research, and have recently begun to record a podcast.
