Summary

In patients with who are vomiting or unable to tolerate oral medications and are not ready to be discharged home form the emergency department, the observation unit (OU) is an excellent option for patients with pelvic inflammatory disease since they usually get better with IV fluids and medications and can usually be discharged home in < 24 hours.
