Listed below are the other (minor) passages in Josephus' writings in which the Essenes are mentioned. The text and translation of these passages are given in Chapter 2 (pp. 24–33). Most of these passages have already been discussed in conjunction with the commentary in Chapter 3, and thus it will suffice simply to refer to that discussion. For the others, brief comments will be given here.
Judas' Prophecy of Antigonus' Death (J.W. 1.3, 5 §78–80 and Ant. 13.11, 2 §311–13). For discussion of these passages, see J. W. 2 §159 (p. 109).
Simon's Interpretation of Archelaus' Dream (J. W. 2.7, 3 §111– 13 and Ant. 17.13, 3 §346–8). For discussion of these passages, see J. W. 2 §159 (p. 109).
John the Essene's Military Exploits (J. W. 2.20, 4 §566–8 and J. W. 3.2,1 §9–12). On the Essene attitude towards war, see J. W. 2 §135 (pp. 67–8) and especially J. W. 2 §152–3 (pp. 102–4).
