Having been a political scientist since the mid-1960s, I have seencalls for disciplinary change come and go. The latest “revolution”is particularly disappointing. Dubbed the “Perestroika movement,”after the nom de plume of the “revolt's” conjurer,supporters of this latest “protest” often make sweeping claims,couched in apocalyptic imagery. Ultimately, Perestroikans alienatesome who favor disciplinary changes. Those who rail against theprofession's political irrelevance are themselves badpoliticians.
