Anyone who has ever graded a term paper knows that students seem toforget most everything they learned in freshman composition classwhen it comes time to write an analytical essay in another course.“Writing across the curriculum” has become almost a mantra thatschools have adopted to counter this problem. Yet it is unclearexactly what “writing across the curriculum” means, and it is moreuncertain how to implement the concept. This paper grows out of aneffort to put “writing across the curriculum” into practice throughcollaborative teaching at Hampden-Sydney College.
