Indicators of the Increase of Political ScienceScholarship on Teaching and Learning in PoliticalScience

Abstract

What evidence can be found of political science scholarship onteaching and learning? What questions are being asked and whatmethodologies are being used by political scientists engaged in thiswork? This article identifies and discusses six transformativetrends in STL, specific to the discipline of political science. Themost prominent trends are the dramatic increases in:

  1. democratic and civiceducation

  2. the use oftechnology in theclassroom

  3. curriculumdevelopment and innovation in teachingstrategies.

There is also evidence ofthe continuing importance of diversity, experimentation with servicelearning, and attention to professional development.
