Breed of terminal sire used in suckler beef systems is one of the most important decisions taken by beef producers, as the terminal sire contributes 50% of the total genetic make-up of the progeny. In view of the inherent variability of carcass weight and grading characteristics of progeny, the objective of the present study was to evaluate the potential of a range of terminal sire breeds for beef production under Northern Ireland conditions.
