Colloid Formation During the Interaction of HLW Glass withInterstitial Clay Water

Abstract

During the reaction of HLW glass with interstitial clay water at differenttemperatures with various ratios of glass surface area to solution volume(SA/V) and durations, Eu released from the glass forms predominantlyEu-humate colloids (organic colloids) by a complexation reaction. The sizedistribution and stability of Eu-humate colloids have been characterized. Itis likely that inorganic colloids which are mainly composed of Si, Al and Caare generated from the corrosion of waste glass by a nucleationreaction.
