The Chipped Chert and Chalcedony Tools from Late Postclassic–Early Spanish Colonial San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, Belize

Abstract

This study of chipped chert and chalcedony tools discusses the household lithic economy at the Late Postclassic–Early Spanish Colonial (ca. AD 1400–1700) Maya site of San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, Belize. It focuses on access to raw materials, tool types, tool production, tool use, and tool curation before and right after the arrival of the Spaniards.

Este estudio de herramientas de sílex y calcedonia talladas analiza la economía lítica en el contexto doméstico del sitio maya de San Pedro, en Cayo Ambergris, Belice, del período Posclásico Tardío hasta la primera parte de la época colonial española (aproximadamente entre 1400 y 1700 dC). Se centra en la adquisición de las materias primas, los tipos y la producción de herramientas, el uso de herramientas y la conservación de herramientas antes y después de la llegada de los españoles.
