Further evidence for intercity co-operationamong Neo-Babylonian temples

Published online by Cambridge University Press:  06 July 2006

Abstract

Recent work among the Sippar Collections of the BritishMusuem has brought to light a number of interestingtexts, among which is the fragment BM 63570. Thistext lists the qīpu's of numeroustemples along with other officials, associating themall with bundles of reeds measured in hundreds. Thisis of unusual interest, however it is not the firsttime such a text has come to light as a similarfragment, BM 68777, was identified and published bythe present author in 1993. Indeed, without a doubtthe two pieces belong to the same tablet. BM 68777is the beginning of the text, while BM 63570 carrieson the obverse from this after a very small breakand then gives some lines from the top of thereverse. The reverse of BM 68777 wasuninscribed.
