In 1917, Kasai Zenzō (1887–1928)wrote With the Children inTow (Ko otsurete), a short story of approximately elevenpages in its original Shinchōsha edition. Kasai'swork, paralleling the actual events that took placein his household from August 9th to 11th of the yearof its publication, is exemplary of theshi-shōsetsu genre,I-novel or autobiographical narrative where theauthor recounts details of his personal life througha thin guise of fiction.
