Journal of Law & Courts call for submissions: special issue on International and Comparative Law and Courts

Deadline: 1st March 2024

The Journal of Law & Courts is soliciting submissions for a special issue focused on international and comparative law and courts. The special issue will welcome a broad range of topics, but we are especially interested in papers that are connected to regime transition, democratic backsliding, judicial and institutional reform, accountability and oversight, and elites and judicial independence. The special issue is open to and welcomes submissions using a variety of social-scientific methodologies and theoretical frameworks, including but not limited to qualitative and quantitative empirical analyses, case studies, historical and archival work, and purely theoretical analyses. In line with the Journal’s mission, we are not soliciting papers that are purely doctrinal in nature. Emphasis will be placed on selecting a diverse group of authors, including those voices traditionally under-represented in international and comparative law and courts journals. 

Potential authors should send the following in a PDF document to journaloflawandcourts@gmail.com with the subject line ‘JLCSpeciaIIssueExpression of Interest’ by 1^st March 2024:

• Author information (name, pronouns, institution, email address)
• Title
• 200-word abstract
• 200-word rationale for significance of proposed article

 

Authors should consider the following:

• Articles will be 8000-12000 words long.
• Articles will advance an original argument (we will not be considering survey articles).
• Drafts must be submitted by May 31, 2024.
• All articles will be fully peer reviewed.
• It is normal that articles reviewed by JLC receive an R&R decision in the first instance. Authors must be prepared to engage positively with such a decision in a 3-month timeframe to be included in the special issue.
• Final drafts for accepted papers will be due by November 30, 2024

 

Authors must strictly follow this guidance. Do not exceed the word limits, do not include any information that is not asked for above. Expressions of interest that do not follow this guidance will not be considered. We will make decision about whether to commission articles by 1^st April 2024.
