Over the past several decades, many scholars have attempted to develop a general theoryexplaining the causes and consequences of revolution. Some of the most notable of these scholarsare Crane Brinton, Barrington Moore, Theda Skocpol, and Jack Goldstone. Theirtheories—as well as those of others—continue to be actively debated even thoughthey were published many years, or even decades, ago.
