Legal and criminological studies in this part of the world have started rather recently, particularly if we compare the situation with other countries in Europe and America.

During the rule of the Ottoman Empire there were no legal studies in Poiestine. Soon after the British Mandatory Government was established in 1922 a Law School was opened in Jerusalem in order to satisfy the need for professional lawyers, but had no further academic aspirations.
