Neutral citation – the practice of giving each judgment of a court areference number or citation – has been in use in the senior courtsof England and Wales since 2001. The beginning of January 2016 saw theintroduction of a new system of neutral citation for English ecclesiasticalcourts. The practice direction bringing this practice into force is reproducedbelow and is preceded by an introductory essay by the Dean of Arches andAuditor.
