This paper reformulates the analogy between text and action in PaulRicœur’s philosophy. My hypothesis is that such areformulation better contextualizes the tensions inRicœur’s practical philosophy, specifically between thesocial and the institutional. The aim is to show thatRicœur’s philosophy is tensional because it’sbased on the principle of analogy. In order to think about this tension, we mustgrasp its true horizon: the analogy of text and action. After outlining thisanalogy’s genesis, we will see that each of theseterms—text, action, analogy—is determined by a“grammar of analogy,” which conditions all ofRicœur’s speeches and has its roots in his interpretationof intentionality.
