Abstract

The thorny issue of inappropriate authorship is a well recognized problem inresearch (Epstein, 1993). Recent editorials and articles in theBritish Medical Journal (BMJ), Lancet and Journal of AmericanMedical Association (JAMA) have raised its profile amongst our medicalcolleagues. The current authors feel that clinical psychologists, nursesand other mental health professionals need to be more aware of thecomplexities of the area. Hence this paper intends to clarify the majorconcerns regarding proper accreditation and gives some recommendationsand guidelines.
