An abundance of cheap energy has been essential for the growth of civilisation during this century, and, like so many of our resources, has been taken for granted— almost for too long. The title is derived from American folklore and is self-evident. ‘Without energy, can’t travel’ is also obvious; perhaps for today’s lecture a more appropriate slogan could be ‘have alternative energy sources, continue to travel’.
