César Vallejo paradoxically discounted the modernist significance of his avant-garde masterpiece,Trilce, published in 1922. Yet, in these poems, the renowned Peruvian writer played with the Spanish language, incorporating neologisms, typographic innovations, radical syntax, symbols and shocking imagery.
