The team – which currently has vacancies – were also finalists in two other categories at the awards: ‘best business transformation initiative’ and ‘building a culture of innovation initiative’.

The Group Print and Operations team work at our two distribution centres on the outskirts of Cambridge, printing and delivering our exam materials and certificates.

The judges praised the team for delivering "a culture shift towards innovation and improvement" through the use of ‘lean principles’ to eliminate waste from processes and improve organisational effectiveness. The transformation of the team’s culture began in 2015, focusing on making it normal to challenge the status quo.

Group print and operations director, Guy Nicholson, said: "This award recognises the effort we’ve put into creating a culture of constructive challenge and drive to constantly improve. That doesn’t happen by accident – it’s down to the hard graft and positive attitude of everyone in our team, who do our organisation great credit."

Chief operations officer Dave Bulman congratulated the team and the colleagues who supported the entry process. "To share successes and lessons learned, it's really important to be able to tell an impactful story. The team did a great job turning the work of all our colleagues into a clear story that hit home with the Business Culture Awards judges. Congratulations!"
