Abstract

The field of economics is vital in analyzing how individuals, businesses, and governments make decisions on resource allocation. Labor economics is a course which studies how workers, firms and the government interact in shaping the outcomes in the labor market. The course supplies students with the fundamental principles governing the behavior and decision-makings of labor market agents regarding employment, labor supply, labor demand, human capital investment, among others. Estrada (2019) claimed that educators are always challenged on how to provide a quality learning experience to students taking up economics courses. The traditional approach to teaching economics focuses on theoretical models and concepts, which may not effectively engage students in active learning. Thus, incorporating game based learning, such as card or board games, can deliver an alternative approach to teaching economics subjects such as labor economics. As one of the academic programs of Pangasinan State University that is intended to sharpen the student’s analysis and understanding of the complexities of today’s economy, the BA Economics Program developed an instructional tool dubbed, “Job labor market game”, a card game that is designed to teach third year economics students the principles of labor market in a fun and engaging way. It is an interactive way to learn about labor market and the core concepts in labor economics.
