Clean Hands, Healthy Lives: Supporting Global Handwashing Day 2025 with Parasitology

Every year on 15 October, Global Handwashing Day reminds us of the critical role hand hygiene plays in protecting health and preventing disease. The 2025 theme, “It Might Be Gloves. It’s Always Hand Hygiene,” reinforces that even when gloves are used, hand hygiene remains essential.

This message, as part of the World Health Organization (WHO)’s SAVE LIVES: Clean Your Hands campaign, underscores that gloves are not a substitute for clean hands. Proper handwashing and disinfection remain fundamental to preventing healthcare-associated infections, curbing the spread of pathogens, and reducing environmental waste linked to unnecessary glove use.

As a leading journal in the field, Parasitology continues to highlight research that deepens understanding of infection prevention, disease transmission, and public health awareness.

New Research Spotlight

To mark Global Handwashing Day 2025, Parasitology has added four new papers to its curated “Hand Hygiene and Infection Prevention” article collection. Together, these studies explore the biological, social, and historical dimensions of infectious disease and its control:
